Reichensachsen Families
We had the privilege of viewing the original church books in Reichensachsen, Germany during our 2002 tour. In addition to my wife's ancestor John Bitner (Böttner), we discovered that several of his siblings immigrated to the United States. After additional research, we identified several other families who traveled on the same ships with them. Using the church book entries and other resources in the United States, I documented these other families along with the Böttners.
This web page presents some of the records that I found for this group of immigrants. I contacted other family historians who have been able to connect their families in the United States to these immigrants from Reichensachsen. In particular, I contributed information about theBoettner and Klebe families of Monroe County, Ohio to a web site maintained by Dick Harrington for Monroe County History and Genealogy.
Extracts from Evangelische Kirchengemeinde, Reichensachsen
When we visited the church in Reichensachsen, the pastor gave us permission to search and photograph the church records. We transcribed numerous records pertaining to Margie's Böttner ancestors. While these entries obviously contain information about other families, we only copied and photographed those which included the Böttner name.
We photographed several pages from the church records that contained Böttner entries. These pages contain many more entries for other families. I have transcribed those entries to give a very brief sketch of some other families in Reichensachsen. The partial years photographed include 1778 - 1779, 1806 - 1809, 1812, 1835, 1837, 1840, 1843, and 1845.
