Bible Record of Jacob and Mary A. Brophy Hardenstine
The Bible record of Jacob and Mary A. Brophy provides an interesting view of their family. It documents several generations of this branch of the family. Unfortunately, each generation had only one son, and the last - Francis and Betty Hardenstine - had no children.
Both Jacob and Mary had earlier marriages. Jacob lived in Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania and had two children with Susan Whippel. Their son William Jeremiah was baptized in Monroe County, where he was raised by his grandparents Godfrey and Ottilia Hardenstine.
Mary was first married in New York City, but I have never found any information about that marriage to a Mr. Devenport. However, I did find the marriage record for Jacob and Mary in New York City. It is reproduced on this site.
The Bible contained several other interesting articles concerning the family in Missouri. In addition, it contained a loving tribute to Mary from here many friends in New York City upon her marriage and departure for Missouri.
Bible Record of Jacob and Mary A. Hardenstine
The Bible record kept by Sarah Hardenstine Strunk documents vital details about the life of her family as well as that of her parents and grandparents. Although the birth dates are not exactly correct for Michael and Elizabeth Hardenstine in Germany, the name of the village they came (Herschberg) from is correct. This is the only place I found that documents the death of Elizabeth. I studied the records of the Lutheran church in New York City that the Hardenstines attended, but cannot find a record of her death there.
Notice that the bottom half of the page (as I reconstructed it) was meant to line up the spouse and marriage date in the right column with the child of Godfrey Hardenstine in the left column. The five names at the bottom right are the children of William H. Hardenstine.
