In the year 1815 on the 4th of the month of May at 9 o'clock in the morning there appeared before me, the mayor and official of the civil office of the town of Herschberg, Canton of Waldfischbach, Departement of Donnersberg, MICHAEL HARTENSTEIN, aged 22 years, single, born (in) and residing in Herschberg, under-aged son of GOTTFRIED HARTENSTEIN and ELISABETHA SCHMIDT, his wife, residents of Herschberg, ?attested to? by his father, and the young lady MARIA ELISABETHA KIEFFER, aged 26 years and 10 months, residing in Herschberg and ?? born (?there too?), the legal aged daughter of the deceased married couple who resided in Herschberg, VALENTIN KIEFFER and ANNA MARIA KETTENRING. ??? of this community ??? and requested the ?denouncing? of the marriage arranged between them. ?Whereupon? the announcement was read in front of the main door of the community building, first on the 23rd and again on the 30th of the month of April 1815 ?at the noon hour?. In that no opposition to this marriage (arose), I therefore ??? after the prior reading of the ?above mentioned? documents and of the 6th chapter of the civil marriage book ??? marriage ?blessed request? ?they? ??? and (I) asked the future husband and wife if they wanted to name two men and two women, after which both indeed offered (?two names each?), I declared in the name of the law MICHAEL HARTENSTEIN and MARIA ELISABETHA KIEFFER to be joined together in matrimony. Whereupon I signed this document in the presence of VALENTIN KIEFFER, aged 46, a farmer residing in Herschberg, of JACOB KETTENRING, aged 30, a farmer residing in Herschberg, of ADAM KIEFFER, aged 28, a farmer residing in Herschberg, and of GEORG CHRISTIAN KIEFFER (sic, the document was signed by Christian Kettenring), aged 60, residing in ?Grossberg?, all ??? ?relatives? of the groom and after the reading of this document they and the groom and bride signed. The bride stated that she could not write.

In the year 1816 on the third of the month of June at one o'clock in the afternoon there appeared before me, Michael Scharff, mayor (and) official of the town of Wallhalben in the Kanton of Waldfischbach in the Department of Donnersberg, MICHAEL HARTENSTEIN, a ?linen weaver? aged 24, a resident of Herschberg (to announce) the birth of a male child in herschberg on the third (of June) at three in the morning, from the marriage of the declarer and ELISABETHA KIEFFER aged 25, his wife, and declared to have given (the child) the name GOTTFRIED.
This declaration occurred in the presence of Walther Gründ aged 63, a farmer/husbandman and resident of Wallhalben, and ?Peter? Voll aged 52 a watchman and resident of Wallhalben, whereupon the father and witnesses and myself signed this birth certificate after it had been read to them.
