Descendants of James Woodside

of Dauphin County, PA

First Generation

Introduction

This information was originally published in 1994. It was my first attempt at producing a written family history, shortly after home computers and word processing became useful. While my skill at genealogical research has improved since that time, I have never updated this document or attempted to revisit the original research to see if more information could be found. With newer tools available to easily publish family history on the Internet, I am placing some of the original document here in hopes that others can find it more easily.

This was basically an effort to document the ancestors of my wife,  Margie Lee Hardenstine Greiner. For that reason it may not be as complete as possible for persons who are not direct ancestors on the primary branch of her tree. I tried to include all the information  for each family line I had in hand at the time of the original publication. For some of the earlier generations, Margie and I tried to do as much research as time permitted to prove her ancestry and to promote further research along collateral lines. However, many of these lines are incomplete and would merit further research.

I would like to acknowledge with gratitude the groundwork that was done on this family by other researchers before me. Dr. James Yeager provided some of the basis for construction of the earlier generations of the Woodside family. His book tied together several of the early families of the Lykens Valley. Robert E. Woodside added much to his family line in addition to including several interesting anecdotes about family members. Mildred Woodside Fegley was like an aunt to Margie and her mother for their entire lifetimes. I believe the writing of Mr. Woodside's book was the inspiration for her to begin collecting the facts from the descendants of her grandfather, John Calvin Woodside. Much of the first-hand knowledge of that family is the result of her efforts and the input from her numerous cousins.
