Elizabeth Hester Hall

     Elizabeth Hester Hall was born on 1 February 1797 at Queen Anne's Co., MD.^1,2,3 As of 17 January 1817,her married name was Godwin.⁴ She married John Godwin, son of Nathan Godwin and Nancy (?), on 18 January 1817 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Church Hill, Queen Anne's Co., MD; The marriage license was recorded on 17 Jan.^1,5,4 Elizabeth Hester Hall left a will on 28 March 1859 at Queen Anne's Co., MD. Julianna Stevens Godwin was named as the executor.⁶ Elizabeth Hester Hall died on 22 May 1859 at Queen Anne's Co., MD, at age 62.^1,5,6 She was buried in June 1859 at 1020 White Marsh Rd, Centreville, Queen Anne's Co., MD.⁷ Her estate was probated on 28 June 1859 at Queen Anne's Co., MD.⁶ Her estate was probated on 8 April 1862 at Queen Anne's Co., MD.⁸ Her estate was probated on 17 August 1866 at Queen Anne's Co., MD.⁹
Elizabeth outlived her husband by almost 35 years. In the 1850 census she was enumerated with her son Henry and his wife, apparently living on their farm on White Marsh Road. Elizabeth inherited several tracts of land from her father as well as from her husband. These included the White Marsh Addition tract as well as the tracts named Notliers (or Notlys) Delight, Brother-hood, Dangerfield, and Fox Hill. I believe the latter are located north and east of Church Hill on Sudlersville Road and Hall Road. She devised these tracts to her grandson John Francis Godwin in her will. At the time she made her will in 1859 she was apparently living on one of these farms outside Church Hill. She was buried on the White Marsh Addition farm.
