Descendants of Johannes Böttner

of Reichensachsen, Hessen, Germany

This is the family of my wife's mother. Although the name was spelled Böttner in Germany, various spellings were used once the family immigrated to the United States. My wife's line spelled the name either Bittner or Bitner. The normal pronunciation of this name is very close to the original German sound of the name. The immigrant lines in Ohio spelled the name Boettner, which was probably pronounced the same.

My wife and I visited the Protestant Church in Reichensachsen in 2002 and viewed their old church record books. We were able to  find the birth record of her immigrant ancestor and his siblings, as well as a marriage record for their parents. In addition, we found two more generations of the Böttner family in the records. We also identified several associated families in the records who immigrated to the United States at the same time as the Böttner siblings.

This site documents what we know of the family in Germany, the immigrant ancestors, and their descendants in the United States. You can use the charts to get a quick overview of the immigrant families and then click on any name to take you directly to their person page. From there you can click on names to move between generations of a family.
